DeGray Lake Triathlon Festival Foul Weather Plan

Please note these are contingency plans for foul weather and are being posted so that you will know what actions will take place if one or more of the following scenarios occur.  Given the time of Year (August) it is highly unlikely that any of these issues will occur.

Additional Note: If events are canceled do to an "Act of God".  The Base policy is:  no refunds.

Scenario #1   Debris in DeGray Lake :

Heavy Rains in the days leading up to race causes excessive debris in water.

Result to race:

Events will become a Duathlon;

Note:  This scenario is highly unlikely and would only take place if we received a 100 year flood rain.

Scenario #2    Severe Thunderstorms at race start time

Result to Race:

If severe thunderstorms are occurring at race start time, the start will be delayed up to 1 hour.  After the 1 hour rain delay the event may be canceled or Turn in to a Duathlon if the storms have not passed.   Chance of occurrence is extremely low given historic weather data.

Scenario #3  Heat Index in Red Zone:

This Scenario applies to the CATS Half Tri only: :  Heat Index (HI) is the “Feels Like” temperature and in layman’s terms is a compilation (combining) of the Actual Temperature and the Humidity Level.  The Red Zone is defined by US Military Standards as being achieved at 111 Degrees F and is considered as dangerous for strenuous physical activity.

Result to Race:

If the forecasted HI for the day is 111 Degrees F or greater the run for the Cats Half Iron Tri will be shortened to the first section of the Course ( 7.65 miles).  This will only happen if the Forecasted HI for the day is 111 F or greater.  Note this scenario is statistically unlikely the Highest HI on any day in August is 109F during the Past 25 years
