CATS Sprint Tri September 14, 2008 500 yard Swim / 15 mile Bike / 3 mile Run

To all registered athletes from the CATS Sprint Triathlon: Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who have been adversely touched by Hurricane Ike. The damage sustained to businesses and personal property is staggering. We have looked into rescheduling the event and have not been able to coordinate venue, support systems and schedules onto any usable weekends during October or early November. For these reasons rescheduling the event is a No Go. It has been and always will be our goal to provide you, the athletes, with premium style events while working within budgetary constraints. I have wrestled with what is the right thing to do in this particular situation and have come to the realization that whatever is done may not be sufficient in the eyes of some and for many others they will say, “a Hurricane is an act of God” and will realize that in the “grand plan” that we were blessed to have escaped the storm’s wrath. The question has been raised “Was there some budgetary savings do to the cancellation” the answer is a very small yes. Nearly all the products and services were paid or contracted for prior to the event. We will be making donations to the benefitting organization associated with the events which were, Boy Scout Troop 78 of Conway, Teen Challenge of Arkansas and the Faulkner County Reserve Sheriff’s support fund. With this knowledge and context, here is what we can do. The net funds realized from the cancellation will be donated to the American Red Cross in the name of the “CATS Sprint Triathlon Participants” to assist with Hurricane relief efforts. If you wish to request your tee shirt, we will mail it to you. All requests for Tee Shirts must be received by October 10th. Any unclaimed tee shirts after October 10th will also be donated. The Tee Shirts are scheduled to be mailed out to those requesting them in Mid October.
